On-the-Ground Partnership Building
Every six months we fly to Ghana to spend time in our adopted village of Pokuase. We use those two-week visits to build and maintain relationships, reinforce our commitment with our staff and the community, hold focus groups with our clients, and make programmatic changes and improvements. These visits, so important to our success, allow us to deepen our ties and maintain a visibility that sets WomensTrust apart from other “faceless” non-government organizations (NGOs). We are on a first name basis with many of our clients and local officials and are greeted continuously as we wander the village.
Our focus groups have made it clear that there are many opportunities to assist the women of Pokuase beyond microcredit and education for girls. The lack of available healthcare, adult literacy classes, and small business development opportunities beyond the petty trading in which many of our clients engage are only three of the many areas that we have seen that need to be addressed.
